The ultimate author

So we’re studying the book of Acts this summer at church and I was reading Peter’s sermon at the temple after they healed a crippled man. The people are standing around acting like Peter and John are powerful and it makes good ol’ Peter angry. He says something that really struck me:

2When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. 14You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. 16By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Jesus referred to as “the Author of life”. It really struck me because it is truly a beautiful thought. The more I deal with the fact that I have to decide what I want to do with my life, the more amazed I am by the fact that it’s sortof been clear all along. God has already had it written. It’s just up to me to accept it. I know I’ll get there.
